Louis P. Winner was born in Louisville, Kentucky. His father's side of his family has a long history in Louisville, Kentucky, while on his mothers side he is a first generation American. Mr. Winner's maternal family is from Santiago Chile. Mr. Winner attended high school at St. Francis High School in Louisville, Kentucky, and then attended college at Indiana University. Mr. Winner graduated from college in three years, and then moved to New York City to attend law school.

Mr. Winner attended law school at the prestigious BENJAMIN N. CARDOZO SCHOOL OF LAW in New York City. During law school Mr. Winner worked at a criminal defense firm that defended white collar crime. Mr. Winner was accepted into the accelerated entry program and graduated from law school in 2 1/2 years. After law school, Mr. Winner moved to Los Angeles, California where he worked as a clerk in an entertainment law firm. In 2001, Mr. Winner re-located to Louisville, Kentucky and began working at the boutique family law firm, Diana Skaggs & Associates.

In 2012 Attorney Louis Winner was selected as one of Kentucky's Top 40 lawyers under 40 by the National Trial Lawyers. Only 40 attorneys under 40 from the entire state of Kentucky are selected for this award each year.

Winner and Stacy Anne Hoehle were guest lecturers at the Kentucky Bar Association's January 2012 New Lawyers Program in Covington, Kentucky. The New Lawyers Program was attended by over 300 new Kentucky attorneys. Winner and Hoehle lectured on domestic violence advocacy.; Guest speaker on the Dr. Stan Frager radio show (AM 970) on April 24, 2011, discussing the topic of family law.
